Legacy High School (LHS) is a high school located in Broomfield, Colorado, and opened in 2000. It is within the Adams 12 Five Star Schools district which is the fifth largest school district in Colorado with 42,000 students.[1] Since its opening in 2000, the school has grown to 2023 students for the 2010/2011 school year.[2]

"Legacy High School has been recognized as a High Growth, High Achievement school by the Colorado Department of Education.[3] The school offers Advanced Placement classes in numerous subjects, and the 2009/2010 graduating class had 363 students take a total of 579 exams, which are open to junior and senior students.[4] The average ACT score was 21.1 compared to the Colorado average of 19.4.[4] A total of $ 5,148,626.00 in scholarships was offered to the 2009/2010 graduating class.[4]"
"Legacy High School offers a special academic program called Legacy 2000 (L2k), which defined by the school, is a "rigorous four-year program designed to develop the tangible and intangible skills and experiences that assist students interested in preparing themselves for a career involving mathematics, science, and technology. The four-year course objectives include career and technology exploration, research practice, job shadowing, and a final project presentation. This project encapsulates real-world experience, professional codes of conduct, and adherence to the regulations and procedures inherent in successful companies." [4]
Legacy participates in the 5A division of the Colorado High School Activities Association,[5] in the Front Range league, which includes Boulder High School, Fairview High School, Fort Collins High School, Fossil Ridge High School, Greely West High School, Horizon High School, Loveland High School, Monarch High School, Mountain Range High School, Poudre High School and Rocky Mountain High School.[6] Legacy offers a wide variety of opportunities in athletics including Boys & Girls Cross Country, Football, Boys Golf, Girls Gymnastics, Boys Soccer Softball, Boys Tennis, Volleyball, Boys & Girls Basketball, Girls Swimming, Wrestling, Baseball, Girls Golf, Girls Soccer, Boys Swimming, Girls Tennis, and Boys & Girls Track and Field.[2] Legacy has had many individual as well as team state champions in its 10 years of operation.
In 2005 and 2006, Steve Ziegler earned the schools first state championship in Golf.[7][8]
The legacy softball program has qualified for the state championships every year since 2003,[5] and was the 2007,[9] 2008,[10] 2009,[11] 2010,[12] and 2011 state champions. Pitcher Shelby Babcock was also named the "Gatorade Softball Player of the year" in 2009[13] as well as the 2009 All Colorado Softball Player of the Year.[14] For the 2010 season, teammate Rainey Gaffin received the same award.[15]
The girls basketball team earned 2nd place in the 5A state championship tournament in 2007 and 2010.[16] and in 2007 Melissa Jones was the Gatorade Player of the Year[13] and in 2009 Quincey Noonan was also the Gatorade Player of the Year.[13]
For the 2008 and 2009 seasons, Steve Schmul was the State Champion in the 100 and 200 meter freestyle,[17] and in 2008 was named the Colorado "Swimmer of the Year".[18]
Wrestler Daniel Mitchell was the 2009 individual state champion.[19]
Alex Von Hagen won an individual title in 2007 in the Long Jump in track and field,[20] and in 2009 Kirstin Young won an individual title in the High Jump.[20]
The Legacy High School marching band was the CBA State Marching Band champion in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 for class 5A, [21] and has received numerous other awards. The band has also received 1st place in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd annual Colorado Bandmasters Association State Championship Parade in 2009, 2010, and 2011. The band was the 1st place overall marching band in the 2010 Parade of Lights. In 2010, the band was selected to play in the 2011 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade,[22] the winter percussion ensemble earned state championships in 2006, 2007 and 2009,[23] and the color guard earned 6 consecutive state championships from 2004–2009, as well as a silver medal in the 2009 WGI World Championships.[24][25][26]
